Wamena is the capital town of the Jayawijaya Regency of Indonesia. It is the largest town in Indonesian Papua’s highlands, in the Baliem Valley and had a population of 31,724 at the 2010 Census.

Day 1: Arrive Jayapura – Wamena 

  • Arrive at Jayapura Sentani Airport and take a short flight to Wamena with schedule 10:20am or 12:30am (baggage allowed for these flight is 10kg only per passenger, as you can leave your unnecessary baggage in Jayapura with us before leaving. (please note: the flights are delayed very often due bad weather, technical problem, operational of flight). After arriving in Wamena, transfer to and overnight at The Baliem Pilamo Hotel or similar. Enjoy your leisure afternoon. Lunch and dinner will be on your account.

Day 2: Salt Spring – Mummy – Traditional Dani Houses

  • In the morning we drive up to Jiwika in the central Baliem Valley. Our one hour trek begins at the base of the mountain and ascends 300 meters through a beautiful rainforest, reaching the traditional salt spring of a Dani clan. Clothed in their traditional costumes, the native inhabitants will demonstrate the old techniques of the salt production. Afterwards the women show us how the brought brine is processed. In the vicinity we will see more picturesque hamlets. Everywhere the friendly natives offer their arts and crafts, weapons and curiosities for our inspection. In the afternoon drive back to the Hotel. Dinner will be on your account

Day 3: Trekking To Ugem

  • Breakfast at hotel. From here you will drive to Sogokmo where the trekking begins with guide, cook and porters. Walk and crossing the metal suspension bridge on Baliem River near by Sogokmo then hike up to 5 hours through the beautiful country side and Dani villages to Ugem. You will encounter and greeted by the Dani people who work in their steep sweet potato garden, arrive in Ugem in the afternoon, accommodation at local houses.

Day 4: Trekking To Syokosimo

  • From Ugem village, we hike up and down to Mugi river and cross the hanging bridge. From this place we still hike another 4 hours. Lunch in box is provided, we hike up to the next Danis compounds while to explore and experience the Dani daily life and culture. Late afternoon arrive in Syokosimo village. Accommodation at local People houses.

Day 5: Trekking To Kilise

  • Today, we hike up and down, the trail is steep and could be very sleeper if it is in rainy season. The first 2 hours hike to the village of Userem through the steep sweet potato garden near the Baliem river. In userem village we cross another metal suspension bridge on the Mugi river, and after 30 minutes walk from Mugi river we will encounter and crossing another longer width traditional suspension bridge on Baliem river. From the Baliem river the trail is going up and take 2,5 hours to arrive in the village of Kilise. Our accommodation is at a local guest house.

Day 6: Trekking Back To Wamena

  • Hike down through the beautiful country side and Dani villages.. The trail is steep and could be very sleeper if it is in rainy season. then continue the last trekking day back to Kurima with regular path of local people, and view suspension hanging bridge over Baliem river. We walk at Baliem river bank until Kurima. You may stop at river for re-freshing of your body and take some breaks. Picnic lunch have provided, and late afternoon arrive in Kurima and Yetni then catch the car for drive back to Wamena town in 40 minutes. Dinner will be on your account. stay at Baliem Pilamo Hotel o similar

Day 7: Wamena – Depart Jayapura

  • The flight very early in the morning, without any breakfast, transfer at 05:00 am to airport for your flight to Jayapura at schedule at 06:15 am. By direct flight for Sorong, Makasar, Jakarta or Denpasar.
