Ermera (Portuguese: Município Ermera, Tetum: Munisípiu Ermera) is one of the municipalities (formerly districts) of East Timor, located in the west-central part of the country. It has a population of 117,064 (Census 2010) and an area of 746 km.

Day 1: Arrive Dili – Liquica – Dili

  • Pick up from the Airport and travel along the coastline going west all the way to Liquica through Tasitolu and Tibar. Visit Aipelo Prison, Tasitolu Peace Park and Pope John Paul II Monument. Drive to Maubara to visit the Fort of Maubara, built by the Dutch in the 1850’s.
  • Lunch & Dinner.


Day 2: Dili – Maubisse – Dili

  • Pick up from the hotel and drive south into the mountains stopping at the Dare Memorial, built by the Australian Forces. Continue the drive through coffee plantations to Alieu. Next stop is Maubisse, a small town with an impressive Catholic Church, cafes and a large market place that attracts people from surrounding villages to buy and sell produce and local crafts. Many of the villagers ride on horseback to the market. Of interest in this region is the traditional house called Umalulik (cone shaped) built of bamboo and mud.

Day 3: Dili – Atauro – Dili

  • After breakfast, walk to Dili Port (across the Hotel Timor, proceed for Atauro Island by speedboat ferry. Explore the Island, Beloi Fish Market, visiting Atauro communities specialize in different crafts and have developed their own unique style (Boneca de Atauro). Enjoy snorkeling at Beloi Beach. Lunch at local restaurant.

Day 4: Dili – Ermera – Dili

  • Pick up from hotel and drive along the north coast, we first stop by the memorial of Pope John Paul II in Taci-Tolo. We then continue westwards along the coast to Tibar and then southwards to Railaco and Gleno, the capital of Ermera district at the core of coffee region. After Gleno we take the road to Seloi lagoon on our way to Aileu, a lovely village with a lot of history and old monuments; we will tour the village and have lunch in a local restaurant. If time permits, we´ll make a short visit to a coffee plantation before heading to Becilau and Dare, on the outskirts of Dili.
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.


Day 5: Depart Dili

  • After breakfast, check out hotel and Dili City Tour (Cristorei, Palacio do Governor, President Palace, Farol Lighthouse, Embassy Road, Tasi Market etc). Check-in Airport.
